Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the Bhagavad Gita Verse app ("the app", "we", "us") handles, why, and the choices you have. The app has no accounts and no sign-in, and we do not run any server that receives your personal information.
1. Information that stays on your device
The following data is created by you while using the app. It is stored only on your device and is never sent to us:
- Your favorite verses, reading progress, chapter journey and streaks
- Journal entries you write
- App settings such as theme, language, reminder time and wallpaper style
- Cached Gita text and recitation audio, kept for offline reading
We cannot see, access or recover this data. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage deletes it permanently.
2. Device permissions
| Permission | Why the app uses it |
|---|---|
| Internet | To download Gita text and recitation audio, and to show ads. |
| Notifications | To send the optional daily verse reminder. These notifications are scheduled on your device. |
| Set wallpaper | To apply the wallpapers you create in the Wallpaper Studio, including the optional daily wallpaper change. |
| Photos / storage | To save wallpapers or verse images to your gallery, but only when you ask it to. |
| Run at startup | To restart your daily reminder, widget refresh and wallpaper change after the phone restarts. |
The app does not access your contacts, camera, microphone, precise location, or the files on your device.
3. Content downloaded from third-party sources
The app downloads scripture text from the public vedicscriptures API. It downloads recitation audio from the public gita/gita repository, which is hosted on GitHub. These requests do not include any personal information. As with any internet request, the hosting provider (GitHub) may see your IP address and device details. See GitHub's privacy statement.
4. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The app is free and shows a small number of ads through Google AdMob. Ads never appear on the Today screen, in the verse reader, in the journal, in notifications or in widgets. To serve and measure ads, Google may collect:
- Your device's advertising ID
- Your IP address and approximate location derived from it
- Your device model, operating system and app version
- How you interact with ads, and diagnostic data
This data is collected and processed by Google under the Google Privacy Policy. To learn more, see how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Your choices:
- In the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and other regions where it is required, a Google consent form asks for your permission before personalized ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Ad privacy choices.
- On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalized ads, in Settings → Google → Ads (or Settings → Privacy → Ads).
5. Google Play services
The app uses Google Play's in-app update and in-app review features. These features may tell you about new versions or let you rate the app. They are handled by Google Play under Google's privacy policy, and we receive no personal information from them.
6. Sharing
When you share a verse or image, the app passes it to the app you choose, such as WhatsApp or Messages. That app's own privacy policy then applies.
We do not sell your personal information. Apart from the ad data described in section 4, we do not share it with anyone.
7. Data security and retention
Data on your device is protected by your device's own security. All network requests made by the app use encrypted HTTPS connections. We keep no copy of your data. Google keeps ad data under its own retention policies.
8. Children's privacy
The app is a general-audience scripture app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and we will help address it.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, delete or object to the processing of your personal data. We hold no personal data about you. To delete your local data, clear the app's storage or uninstall it. For ad data, use the controls in section 4 or contact Google directly.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version is always available on this page, and the effective date above shows when it last changed.
